Yesterday afternoon, chaos briefly unfolded at a local CVS Pharmacy in Galt when a senior citizen lost control of her vehicle and struck a pedestrian. The Galt Police Department responded to what could easily have been a tragic scene, only to find that, by fortune or fate, it resulted to be a non-fatal accident with minor infractions upon the structure itself.
The incident occurred in front of the business at 1063 C St., where an 81-year-old woman, driving a Jeep Cherokee, was attempting to navigate into a parking space. She inadvertently accelerated instead of braking, propelling the vehicle onto the sidewalk, where it struck an unsuspecting pedestrian. The car's wild journey ended with a collision against a metal handrail and the store's windows. According to a social media post from the Galt Police Department, no customers inside the business were harmed, thanks to what one can only surmise to be a spate of good luck.
Both the driver and the pedestrian required medical attention at the scene, which was promptly provided by Cosumnes Fire personnel. The report detailed the driver as the Jeep's sole occupant, and, reassuringly, noted that both individuals were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
