A man in his 70s was fatally stabbed early this morning while biking to work in east Houston, confirm police reports. The Houston Police Department says the emergency response was initially triggered by the assumption that the man had been hit by a vehicle, but upon arrival, it became clear that the man had been attacked and stabbed on a nearby bike trail. He somehow managed to get to his place of employment, where he relayed the incident to coworkers before succumbing to his injuries, as reported by Click2Houston.
Despite the quick action of his coworkers in calling 911, the man, whose identity remains undisclosed, died after being taken to the hospital. The attack occurred just outside The Spencer Company on North Drennan Street, where he was an employee. No arrests have been made in connection to the homicide, and the motive for this violence remains unknown, as noted by KHOU 11.
The Houston Police Department is currently calling for any witnesses or persons with information about the incident to reach out to HPD or Crime Stoppers. Following the tragedy, Sgt. Mark Holbrook stated, "He collapsed and was severely bleeding," describing the victim's critical state upon reaching his workplace, as per a report by KHOU 11. Investigators are now working alongside Precinct 6 constables to trace the route the man took, searching for a blood trail that may unravel more about this tragic event.
The Spencer Company, upon being contacted for a statement, relayed, "We understand that one of our valued team members was attacked by an assailant on his way to work this morning, and he subsequently passed away due to his injuries. We are cooperating with the authorities in their investigation, and most importantly, our thoughts and prayers go out to our team members' family and friends during this difficult time," as mentioned by KHOU 11. The assailant was described by the victim as a white male; this is the only lead that currently exists concerning the attacker's identity.
