A 24-year-old service technician was seriously injured after being hit by a dump truck on Tuesday along U.S. Route 250 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. As reported by Cleveland19, the hit-and-run incident occurred just after 12:15 p.m. when the technician, aiding a driver with a disabled vehicle, was struck. The Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived on the scene following the collision.
The service technician had parked his vehicle behind the impaired commercial truck to assist with the left front tire repair when "a dump truck driving south on U.S. 250 then drifted into the shoulder and hit the service tech," as the Ohio State Highway Patrol's release indicated, according to Cleveland19. The driver of the dump truck fled the scene thereafter.
The hit-and-run prompted an urgent response, with the injured technician being airlifted to an Akron hospital due to the severity of his injuries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has not immediately released the identities of those involved, but they later located the suspected dump truck at a local business. The driver of the disabled truck, a 28-year-old man, was treated on the scene for potential injuries, as described by FOX8.
Several hours after the crash, troopers were able to find both the suspect and the truck. "Troopers found the driver and the truck a few hours later at a local business," the OSHP's statement mentioned, quoted by Cleveland19. While the OSHP continues to investigate the crash, they are asking for anyone with information about the incident to call the New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post at 330-339-1103.
