Local voices will shape the future of the Blue Line Extension (BLE) Light Rail, as Metro Transit and the Metropolitan Council are seeking input from the public. A newly launched DREAM survey—an acronym for Develop Recommendations, Empower Action, and Mobilize—aims to gather community insights on the project. The survey, which only requires five to seven minutes to complete, is a straightforward platform for residents to express their thoughts on development priorities, creative ideas, and any issues of concern, according to the City of Brooklyn Park.
The extensive community engagement process doesn't end with an online questionnaire, Metro Transit is also engaging with Cultural Placekeeping Design Groups from various communities such as Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, Crystal, and Brooklyn Park to ensure the transit infrastructure reflects the local heritage and culture, community members can provide expressive comments on the corridor map, or they could upload photos that encapsulate their community's spirit or inspire station design, accompanied by captions detailing the location and significance of each image which could create a unique opportunity to bake local identity right into the city’s transit backbone.
Emphasizing the importance of local participation, the project office has opened the stage for residents to actively contribute to defining their neighborhoods' aesthetic, effectively making them co-designers of the public spaces that will serve them. Commuters, artists, historians, and everyday citizens have this unique chance to voice what cultural elements they believe should be immortalized in station designs, lighting, and sidewalks along the Blue Line Extension corridor.
