In Milwaukee, in the wake of destructive flooding, a community-driven solution has emerged to support students struggling in its aftermath. Alderman DiAndre Jackson, recognizing the urgent need, has launched a collaboration between the Sherman Park Grocery Store and the Local 212 FAST Fund at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). This joint effort will provide pre-paid food cards to MATC students affected by the natural disaster, offering direct and practical aid to those facing hardship.
"These are two pillars of the community coming together in the face of this disaster to help students who are in need," Alderman Jackson remarked in a statement obtained by City of Milwaukee. The partnership not only displays the resilience of the community but also exemplifies how local entities can act swiftly in response to urgent needs. Students impacted by the recent historical flooding can reach out to the FAST Fund for assistance with necessities.
The Sherman Park Grocery Store and Local 212 FAST Fund's collaborative move serves as an inspiring model of solidarity. As indicated by FAST Fund Director Bria Burress, the relief measures are tailored for students hit by the August 9-10 flooding in Milwaukee County. "Our mission is to help students experiencing economic emergencies with rapid financial support and to promote public and MATC policies on issues impacting MATC students so they remain enrolled and achieve academic success," Ms. Burress said, according to City of Milwaukee.
