Brooklyn's Cypress Hills area became the site of a grim discovery earlier today when skeletal remains were found just off the Jackie Robinson Parkway. A Department of Transportation worker stumbled upon the remains, which were contained in a black garbage bag near Exit 1 northbound, as reported by ABC7NY.
A subsequent report by PIX11 also noted that the remains were discovered on the westbound side of the parkway. The NYPD informed that the discovery occurred around 10:30 a.m. The precise location of the find is near several cemeteries, an area patrolled frequently by city workers but not known to gruesomely unveil its secrets onto the roadside. Officials are now working to not only identify the human remains but also piece together how they came to be discarded in such a manner.
While details surrounding the identity and cause of death are pending, both discoveries have been confirmed as human, prompting further investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged to thoroughly examine the remains and is expected to provide answers in the coming days.
NewsCopter 7 presented aerial footage of the investigation, offering a bystander's view of the scene where the bag was found. With the revelation, police have begun to sift exhaustively through clues in an effort to solve what is now unfolding to become a story of life lost and unsolved mysteries unraveling on the outskirts of the city.
