Slows Bar BQ, a household name in Detroit's Corktown since 2005, is set to expand its footprint with a new location in Ann Arbor. As reported by WXYZ, the venue for the barbecue joint will be located at 207 E. Washington, a space formerly occupied by Blue Tractor BBQ. In addition, Slows is affirming its commitment to metro Detroit with a Berkley location set to open this fall.
The Ann Arbor expansion stems from the brand's recognized traction in the area through its catering and food truck services. Slows has made appearances at local events like Ann Arbor SummerFests and Art Fairs, maintaining a strong local presence. "Our truck has been at several past Ann Arbor SummerFests and Art Fairs. We've operated our truck at the Charity Tailgate at 327 E. Hoover before UM home games. We'll be there next Saturday starting at 3 p.m. before the New Mexico game," Slows detailed in a statement, according to The Detroit News. Terry Perrone, Slows' managing director, also shared progress on the Berkley location, indicating that hiring for key positions is underway.
Beyond serving up plates of its renowned barbecue, the Ann Arbor Slows will provide full-service dining, carryout, as well as third-party delivery options, mimicking the varied services offered at its original location. The new establishment resides where Blue Tractor BBQ & Brewery had previously undergone remodeling. "Slows Bar BQ in Ann Arbor will be in the former Blue Tractor BBQ & Brewery location at 207 E. Washington St.," Detroit Free Press reports, highlighting that the site is already familiar to locals as a barbecue spot.
