Southbridge Police Department reported the arrest of two juveniles linked to a recent spree of automotive crimes, including vehicle theft, break-ins, and multiple hit-and-run incidents. The narrative unfolded when officers, patrolling the streets, noticed two individuals whose appearances matched with surveillance footage descriptions last Wednesday.
Detained near Mechanic Street around 6:30 PM, the suspects were two young males aged 14 and 12 from Southbridge and Worcester respectively. According to a social media post from the Southbridge Police Department, officers found a tool used for vehicle break-ins in their possession. Subsequent to the stop, the officers proceeded with their investigation and found that these same juveniles had committed an array of offenses the night prior.
The investigation further linked them to the theft of a motor vehicle from Everett Street, which they later used to crash into several parked vehicles. They had also broken into another vehicle on Charlton Street where an alarm had been activated. With the help of surveillance footage, a screwdriver, and a USB device, the suspects had managed to start the stolen vehicle, only to abandon it after their reckless itinerary on the rail trail.
The ramifications of their actions led to the 14-year-old being charged with a count of larceny of a motor vehicle, three counts of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and two counts of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle during the nighttime with intent of committing a felony. With larceny of a motor vehicle, the 12-year-old was charged. In the wake of these findings, both juveniles were booked as per the departmental policies.
