In an enforcement action by the Southern District of Texas, 247 defendants have been charged with immigration and border security-related offenses during the final week of July, highlighting an ongoing commitment to Operation Take Back America. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei detailed the charges, which include 21 for human smuggling, 119 for illegal entry into the country, and 107 for felony reentry after previous removal.

Among the newly charged for illegal reentry are four Mexican nationals, with convictions for crimes ranging from narcotic possession to multiple offenses for driving while intoxicated. Despite their prior deportations between 2005 and 2025, they were allegedly found in the McAllen area without legal authorization. U.S. Attorney Ganjei's office stated that each individual faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison.

In addition, two individuals previously removed after convictions for harboring unauthorized immigrants, Hugo Armando Esquivel Castro and Jose Armando Wong Lopez, have been charged with illegal reentry into the United States. Another case involves Jonathan Ray Balderas, who was sentenced to 41 months in prison after attempting to smuggle ten unauthorized individuals. He was found in possession of a loaded firearm during the incident. The court cited deterrence as a key factor in determining the length of the sentence.

Rafael Cortez-Gonzalez, a repeat felon, has been sentenced to over three years in prison for a fourth illegal entry into the U.S. His rap sheet includes two felony convictions for the same crime, and one conviction for transporting an illegal alien within the U.S., according to the statements acquired by the U.S. Attorney's Office. The court imposed a 39-month sentence on Cortez-Gonzalez with the intent to deter future violations.

Operation Take Back America is a joint effort involving federal, state, and local agencies. The initiative is designed to address illegal immigration, disrupt cartel activity, and respond to violent crime. It combines resources from various task forces to support law enforcement operations focused on public safety and border security.
