A Hernando County teacher was charged after crashing his vehicle into the perimeter of Explorer K-8 on Tuesday just before midday. According to WTSP, deputies responded to the Spring Hill campus following reports of the collision.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Philip Scire, a teacher at the school, was found unconscious behind the wheel in a still-engaged vehicle. WFLA reported that several empty single-serving alcohol containers were found within his reach. Scire declined to provide a sample for testing.

After being cleared medically, Scire was charged with driving under the influence, as detailed by FOX 13 News. Authorities noted a prior DUI arrest in Broward County in 2014. He was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center and will await court proceedings.
