
A Spring Hill woman's act of compassion turned tragic on Sunday night when she was struck and killed while assisting an injured opossum on the road. The 27-year-old was a passenger in a vehicle that had stopped for the injured animal, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. As reported by FOX 13 News, the incident occurred when she exited the vehicle to attend to the opossum.
The Florida Highway Patrol further detailed that the woman was hit by a Chrysler 300, driven by a 19-year-old man from Weeki Wachee. ABC Action News reported that her husband, the driver who initially stopped for the possum, was unharmed. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The identity of the woman has not been released as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol stated that charges are pending as the investigation is still ongoing, and there is no immediate word on whether the driver of the Chrysler will face any legal repercussions, as per WTSP.
