Oregon State Police recently reported a fatal accident involving a single motorcycle on Highway 126 in Linn County. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 13, at approximately 10:41 a.m., near milepost 0. The crash claimed the life of Jan Dwight McSilvers, a 72-year-old resident of Springfield, according to officials.
The preliminary investigation, as it appears, suggested that McSilvers was unable to negotiate a curve while traveling eastbound on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, which led to him departing from the road’s surface. The investigation also revealed the motorcycle rolled over onto McSilvers after he left the roadway, which indicated a failure to control the vehicle properly in the prevailing conditions.
Responders who arrived at the scene pronounced McSilvers dead shortly thereafter. His motorcycle incident effectively caused disruptions, with the highway being affected for around one hour while the investigation transpired at the scene. The authorities are still looking into the specific cause of the crash and have not released further details at this point.
Oregon State Police were assisted in their efforts by Black Butte EMS and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). While the initial findings of the crash have been shared by the authorities, there have been no further updates regarding additional circumstances or potential contributing factors that may have led to the tragic event.
