In the pre-dawn hours of a late July Saturday, Springfield Police swiftly responded to a potentially volatile situation. At around 2:45 a.m., officers from Squad A seized four illegal firearms, including one large capacity "Ghost Gun," after answering a call about a fight involving armed individuals on Worthington Street. Acknowledging the rapid response, a statement from the Springfield Police Department detailed the arrest of four suspects near Taylor Street and Fairbanks Place.
The sequence of events reportedly began to unfold shortly after 2 a.m., with officers dispatched swiftly to address the situation. Encountering individuals that matched the provided descriptions, they found four suspects inside a vehicle. Those detained included 26-year-old Tyrease Arzola, 19-year-olds Jordan Arkins and Ezier Santiago, and a 17-year-old juvenile, whose identity remains protected due to his age. All suspects hail from Springfield.
Searches conducted by the officers led to the discovery of not only the firearms – amongst them a Ghost Gun with a 31-round capacity – but also narcotics, specifically a bundle of heroin divided into ten bags. The four individuals found in the vehicle were promptly arrested, with charges spanning from firearm and ammunition possession to drug possession. Springfield Police's statement emphasized that firearms like the seized Ghost Gun, lacking serial numbers, pose a unique challenge to law enforcement efforts due to their difficult traceability.
Each suspect now faces multiple charges. Arzola's charges include possession of a large capacity firearm during a felony and making a firearm without a serial number, among others. His compatriots, Arkins and Santiago, have similarly been charged with various firearm-related offenses and drug possession. All charges were outlined in detail by the Springfield Police Department in a full recount of the incident.
