Taking a moment to shine a spotlight on those who serve tirelessly and without fanfare, the State of Texas has announced the open call for nominations for the 42nd Annual Governor's Volunteer Awards. As reported by the Office of the Texas Governor, the awards are orchestrated by the OneStar Foundation, recognizing Texans who go above and beyond in serving their communities through exceptional volunteer work.
"Every day, Texans from all walks of life give their time and talents to lift up their neighbors and strengthen the fabric of our communities," said First Lady Cecilia Abbott, echoing the sentiments of inclusivity and service that the awards aim to celebrate. She and Governor Greg Abbott have extended an invitation to all to nominate individuals and organizations that embody the altruistic spirit of Texas, according to the Governor's Office.
Chris Bugbee, OneStar President and CEO, emphasized the awards' importance, stating, "As we launch the 42nd Governor's Volunteer Awards, we are proud to recognize the everyday heroes who remind us that service is not only an action but a legacy," as noted by the Governor's Office. He further highlighted the partnership with the Governor and First Lady, showcasing the perseverance, generosity, and impact of Texans dedicated to building healthier, connected communities.
This year's nominations cover a range of categories, including the Governor's Lifetime Achievement Award, First Lady's Rising Star Award, and Volunteer of the Year Award, among others. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the OneStar Foundation website for more details on award criteria, eligibility, and submission guidelines. Nominees who embody Texas' hospitality and humanity will be honored during an April 2026 ceremony at the Governor's Mansion, hosted by First Lady Abbott, Honorary Chair of the Governor's Volunteer Awards.
