A somber mood grips the community of Statesville, North Carolina following a deadly confrontation that occurred this past weekend. According to a social media post by the Statesville Police Department, a shooting incident took to the streets, leaving one woman dead and precipitating in the suspect's demise following a self-inflicted gunshot.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the 1000 block of Fifth Street yesterday afternoon, where they discovered 51-year-old Surtonia Burton with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite rapid transport to medical care, her injuries proved fatal. The suspect, identified as Titeon Breshaun Burton, 26, was later located but resulted in a fatal pursuit. When confronted by officers on Broom Street, Titeon Burton sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and was declared deceased en route to the hospital. Statesville Police has extended "its deepest condolences to the Burton family during this tragic time."
The police's investigative efforts led to the swift identification of Titeon Burton as the primary suspect. He was found at a business on Oakland Avenue. His attempt to elude capture ended tragically, following a foot chase that concluded in his apparent suicide.
