A high-speed chase in Little Five Points has tragically ended the life of a 19-year-old, with the driver now facing a slew of charges. 24-year-old Faduma Mohamed from Stone Mountain has been indicted on multiple felony counts, including Felony Murder and Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree. This follows a fatal crash in April where teenager Cooper Schoenke lost his life.
The indictment, as reported yesterday by the Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney, details a sequence of events leading up to the incident. Mohamed is accused of having been speeding on I-20 and proceeding to drive recklessly when a Georgia State Patrol trooper initiated a pursuit. The chase would ultimately extend almost two miles into Little Five Points.
Additional charges against Mohamed include Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, DUI- Driving Under the Influence with a Controlled Substance Present in Blood, and Possession of Methamphetamine, among others. The preliminary investigation uncovered that the crash occurred when Mohamed ran a red light at the intersection of Moreland Avenue and Euclid Avenue, colliding with Schoenke’s vehicle. The case is expected to move forward soon, with an arraignment set before a Superior Court Judge, followed by a trial date.
