The City of Surprise has announced a collaboration with Dementia Friendly Arizona, Banner Sun Health Research Institute, and community partners to host the Surprise Dementia Awareness & Resource Fair. This complimentary educational initiative is targeting the uplift of public understanding around the complexities of dementia while reducing associated stigmas. As reported by the City of Surprise, the event is catered to those affected either directly or indirectly by the condition, aiming to connect them with supportive resources.
Scheduled for September 27, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon, the fair will unfold at the Surprise Regional Library. Designed to be a resource for families and caregivers, the event will tackle topics from brain health to supportive measures for individuals grappling with dementia. Having provided a dementia-friendly session, the City of Surprise joins the Dementia-Friendly America network, furthering their commitment to fostering an informed and supportive community. Hoping to bridge connections, the event will feature sessions hosted by recognized professionals in the field such as Janice Greeno, MA, from the Banner Sun Health Research Institute/Banner Alzheimer's Institute.
The fair will begin with a 9:15 a.m. session focused on Dementia Friends, followed by a 10 a.m. presentation on brain health and healthy aging by Dr. Andrew Hiep Ho, DO. Culminating the event, Surprise Mayor Kevin Sartor will deliver a proclamation in recognition of World Alzheimer's Day at 11 a.m., underscoring the City's dedication to the cause. With these sessions, the fair promises to be a morning rich in knowledge, solidarity, and communal empowerment.
