Surry County is seeking a new Board of Elections chair following the resignation of James "Jimmy" Yokeley Jr., who stepped down yesterday. Yokeley had served as a member since July 2023 and was appointed chair earlier this year, as per the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
The North Carolina Republican Party will submit two nominations to the State Board of Elections to fill the position as soon as possible. No reason was given for Yokeley’s resignation, which took effect immediately.
The North Carolina State Board of Elections will continue its operations, which include overseeing elections, voter registration, and election law enforcement. A new chair will be appointed according to state procedures.
