Last year's frightening home invasion in Northaven, which put one family in direct harm's way, has finally seen a major development. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office posted on social media about the arrest and extradition of an armed robbery suspect after a dedicated year-long investigation. The incident, which left a victim and her children traumatized, occurred on July 27, 2024, when an armed man broke into a home and stole a PlayStation 5, before firing a shot while fleeing the scene. Thankfully, no one was injured.
During the intervening months, detectives worked to not just follow leads but to also piece together the events that led to the invasion. Through diligent police work, they identified 28-year-old Harold Carter as the male suspect involved in this harrowing crime. As stated in the Shelby County Sheriff's Office social media post, Carter was located in South Dakota on July 17, 2025, and was extradited back to Shelby County last Sunday.
According to the detailed account of the events shared by the Sheriff's Office, the impact of such violent acts on families cannot be underestimated. The victims were confronted in their own living room, terrorized by a man wielding a gun, and then subjected to the sound of gunfire as they attempted to secure themselves. The bullet struck the home’s front security door, a stark reminder of the danger they had miraculously escaped.
Now, with Carter being held at the Main Jail in 201 Poplar, the community looks forward to justice being served. In a collection of charges laid out, Carter must answer for aggravated burglary, four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and recklessly to put lives in danger by discharging a firearm into an occupied habitation.
