Boston Police are currently searching for a suspect linked to a stabbing incident that occurred at a Stop & Shop in Dorchester this past Saturday. According to a statement obtained by CBS News Boston, the altercation between the suspect and victim, an unidentified man in his fifties, escalated to violence outside of the grocery store on Blue Hill Avenue shortly before 12:15 p.m. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition.
No arrests have been reported as of now, and police have not suggested any ongoing danger to the public, as per Boston Police Department's spokesperson. The exact catalyst for the altercation has yet to be disclosed, it's unclear if the stabbing took place inside the store, or in the parking lot. In relation to the stabbing, Boston 25 News reported that an investigation is ongoing and details about the victim's current condition have not been released.
The incident was followed by separate violence in the neighborhood when, a few hours later, a shooting occurred approximately a mile from the original crime scene. At around 4:25 p.m., Boston police received reports of a man with a gunshot wound on Harvard Street. NBC10 Boston notes that local witnesses heard between three to five gunshots and that five evidence markers were seen placed on the ground as law enforcement sought surveillance footage for further clues. The status of the gunshot victim is unknown, and like the stabbing, no suspects have been detained in connection with the shooting, according to NBC10 Boston.
These consecutive episodes of violence rattled the community, prompting response from residents who feel an increasing need for vigilance. "You know you kind of get desensitized by things like this because you hear about it so much its like, okay, another one," Boston resident Blake Rickerson told NBC10 Boston. "So being vigilant is a healthy attitude to have when dealing with these types of situations." Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Boston Police Department.
