Yesterday evening, a carjacking at a Carl's Jr. on Madera Road led to the arrest of a suspect identified as 33-year-old transient Nicholas Kelley. Simi Valley Police Department reported that Kelley had been inside the restaurant for around three hours before following the victim, an employee, to his car, and forcefully demanding the keys after striking up a short conversation. The encounter ended with the victim being punched and Kelley fleeing with the stolen vehicle, a black Honda Civic with California license plate 8TDW248.
After scouring through personal items Kelley left behind, Officers were able to positively identify him, as per the Simi Valley Police Department. Described by the police as a career criminal with an extensive criminal record, Kelley was found walking in the vicinity of Erringer Road and Simi Town Center Way, where his arrest took place early this morning at precisely 0412 hours. Engaging with the police, Kelley moderately resisted during the encounter but was ultimately apprehended and charged with carjacking among other offenses. The authorities have yet to recover the black Honda Civic and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
As the search for the victim's vehicle continues, Kelley is now detained at Ventura County Jail, facing charges under 215 PC, 11550 HS, and 148 PC, all indicating a serious confrontation with the law, as outlined by the Simi Valley Police Department.
