
A devastating turn of events unfolded in Midtown, Houston, after a pickup truck led authorities on a fatal pursuit ending with two victims dead. According to Click2Houston, Harris County Precinct 7 constables spotted a black Ford F-150 running red lights and initiated a traffic stop. The driver of the truck failed to yield, culminating in a collision with a Lexus at the intersection of Smith and Elgin streets, causing the Lexus to strike a building and catch fire, tragically resulting in the deaths of both occupants.
The pickup's driver, who showed signs of intoxication, was taken into custody and is now facing severe legal consequences. In the wake of the incident, "The Harris County District Attorney's Office was going to pursue murder charges against the pickup truck driver," as reported by KHOU. A briefing is expected from the constable's office at 11:30 a.m. with further details about the case.
In addition to the two victims, a female passenger in the suspect's truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the hospital, receiving care for her injuries. Details surrounding the suspect, 21-year-old Rene Hernandez, were shared by law enforcement, indicating he displayed signs of intoxication, which included slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. KHOU reported that Hernandez was still in the hospital for his injuries as of this morning and remained in police custody.
