A suspected drunk driver's night took a dramatic turn in Houston when their car caught fire after grinding on its rims. Constable Mark Herman's Office reported that last Tuesday, deputies responded to a situation in the 25600 block of Aldine Westfield where a witness had been following a vehicle demonstrating erratic behavior consistent with intoxication. The Precinct 4 Facebook page relayed details of the incident, noting the vehicle had veered off the road and hit multiple curbs, resulting in two flat tires.
The driver, despite the damage to the vehicle, continued to drive - a sparking spectacle down the street that ultimately culminated in flames licking the undercarriage of the car. Captured by the following witness, the fire was a result of the overheated rims making contact with the road. According to the Constable's Office report, the fire was extinguished by the fire department after the driver came to a stop.
The driver at the heart of this fiery chase was identified by officials as Isabel Diaz Pineda. The deputies at the scene subjected Pineda to a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which led to the conclusion of his intoxicated state. "Isabel Diaz Pineda was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated," stated Constable Mark Herman on the Precinct 4 Facebook page.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, a bond was set at a mere $100.00 for Pineda out of County Court 15. Constable Herman uses the Facebook platform not just to report these occurrences but also to encourage community engagement, steering residents towards their mobile app “C4 NOW” for live updates on local crime, safety, and traffic information.
