Early this morning, chaos briefly erupted on the streets as a suspect, later identified as Sariel Jeter, embarked on a vehicular escapade that ended with a crash and an unscheduled encounter with law enforcement. According to the Precinct 4 Constable's Office, deputies received a tip regarding a suspicious person which subsequently unfolded into a hot pursuit. The suspect allegedly commandeered a vehicle, unlawfully, of course, and put the pedal to the metal before everything came to a crashing halt near the 2500 block of Sciaaca Road.
After the crash, Jeter fled the scene, leading deputies on a foot chase that ended with him hiding in a trash bin. The attempt to evade capture failed, and Constable Mark Herman's deputies quickly found and detained him. Jeter now faces charges despite his unusual hiding place.
"Our deputies work tirelessly to track down criminals and return stolen property to rightful owners," stated Constable Mark Herman, in a nod to the dedication of his team, as reported by the Precinct 4 Facebook page. Jeter was arrested, charged with Felony Theft and Evading, and then whisked away to the Harris County Jail. There, his freedom would hinge on a $45,000.00 bond set by the 208th District Court.
