Two men have been arrested in connection with a cunning theft in Big Bear Lake after they allegedly bamboozled a seller out of his trailer during what appeared to be a routine sale. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department, the incident occurred on the afternoon of August 9.
The victim, whose identity remains confidential, had listed his camping trailer for sale and agreed on a $3,000 price with the suspects, identified as Anthony George, 42, of Riverside, and David Marks, 30, of Moreno Valley, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department. After paying cash, the suspects used the victim's bathroom, only to subsequently abscond with both the cash and the trailer in a slick operation that left the victim momentarily unaware of the heist.
Following the initial report of the stolen trailer, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies carried out a thorough investigation, which led to a follow-up on August 13. In a statement made by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, investigators executed search warrants in Moreno Valley and successfully recovered the missing trailer and paperwork.
The two suspects were taken into custody, and the case was forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Department has openly urged anyone who might have additional information to promptly contact the Big Bear Sheriff Station. The office remains open to anonymous tips, which can be submitted through the We-Tip Hotline or their website.
