A fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in Tampa is under investigation after it claimed the life of a teenager. According to a report by the City of Tampa's official website, the Tampa Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of E Linebaugh Ave and N 14th St yesterday.
The crash occurred at around 8:41 p.m., when a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle was hit by a 2023 BMW as the latter was attempting a left-hand turn; the motorcyclist, a young male in his late teens, suffered life-threatening injuries and later passed away at a local hospital despite attempts to save his life. The driver of the BMW remained at the scene and is said to have cooperated with law enforcement authorities as they began their preliminary investigation into the incident, speed is a factor under consideration but at this juncture, impairment has been ruled out by the detectives working the case.
As for the specifics leading up to the crash, the early findings suggest a tragic lapse in judgment on the part of the BMW driver, who failed to yield to oncoming traffic while attempting to turn onto N 14th St. The motorcycle, traveling in the opposite direction, was struck with fatal consequences. The victim's identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
