Los Angeles County witnessed an unusual sight late Tuesday night as an 18-year-old male on a stolen minibike led police on a freeway chase. According to a report by KTLA, the incident started in Gardena at around 11:00 p.m. and transitioned onto the 110 Freeway. Videos documented the pursuit, showing the minibike picking its way at high speeds while being trailed by flashing police lights and blaring sirens.
Despite the chase entering the Harbor Gateway area, it was short-lived due to fuel constraints; the minibike ran out of gas on the 110 Freeway, near the 405 interchange. FOX LA stated the young man was captured without incident. As the California Highway Patrol and Gardena police reflected on the engagement, no injuries were fortunately reported.
The minibike chase diverted the attention of unsuspecting LA drivers, with the suspect eventually heading the correct way along the southbound lanes. After the minibike's fuel tank ran dry near the 190th Street exit, authorities were able to apprehend the rider, disclosed FOX LA. The individual was charged with felony evading and operating a vehicle without a license.
Running without a helmet and on an unauthorized vehicle on city streets, the suspect faces legal repercussions not only for his act of evasion but also for disregarding road safety regulations. Details of the suspect's identity and the reason for the initial pursuit by officers remain undisclosed at this time, added ABC7. The night's events culminated with the subdued rider being taken into custody.
