A tragic incident unfolded in northwest Harris County where a 15-year-old girl died yesterday morning, with authorities considering carbon monoxide poisoning as a potential cause. As reported by KHOU, the teen and her mother, who had a history of homelessness, were found sleeping in their car at their home near Ella Boulevard and SH 249; the habit persisted even after obtaining their residence.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a statement obtained by KHOU, "They talked in the car regularly and even sometimes slept in the car because they were familiar with it since they were recently homeless." After the mother returned from work around 3 a.m., sadly, the waking hours brought with them an unforeseen sorrow as the mother discovered her daughter unresponsive. Rushing her to meet emergency services at a local restaurant, the teen was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. An autopsy is expected to clarify the young girl's cause of death, with no visible signs of trauma present.
In addition to the details shared by FOX26 Houston, the family was initially driving to the hospital, however, they were instructed to meet responders on SH-249 near Antoine Drive where the girl was subsequently taken to the hospital and unfortunately, it was there she was pronounced deceased. While the teen's identity has not been disclosed, authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
