A 16-year-old boy lost his life in a shooting incident that occurred earlier today in northeast Charlotte. The teenager was in a residence when the shooting took place, and despite the efforts of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to save the victim, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital, reported WSOC-TV.

The incident left the community in distress, as the shooting endangered not only the teenager, but also three young children, ages 3, 4, and 5, along with two women, ages 34 and 35, who were in the home at the time of the shooting, according to the Charlotte Observer. The children and women were unharmed, as the 16-year-old was the only individual struck by gunfire. A CMPD news release detailed the event, stating that officers attempted life-saving measures for the teenager.

The CMPD's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the fatal shooting and has encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
