A teenager's life was cut short on Wednesday night in a shooting on King Street, right by the Hollybrook Homes Apartments, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO). The male victim, in his late teens, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a local hospital. The incident happened just south of West Beaver Street in Jacksonville's Mixon Town area.
JSO officers responded to the distressing call shortly before 9 p.m., according to News4Jax. With the scene at Hollybrook Homes Apartments still heavy with silence and mourning, police disclosed that surveillance footage revealed the likely shooter fleeing the scene. The footage reveals an older bald Black man dressed entirely in black, according to reports, leaving the apartment complex in an unknown direction.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's efforts to locate the shooter continued into the following day as a SWAT team breached a unit at the Hollybrook Homes Apartments on Thursday morning. However, it hasn't been reported if the SWAT's invasive action yielded any arrests as of the last update, according to Action News Jax. Earlier in the morning, police drones were seen in the sky, and SWAT demands were heard through a loudspeaker, suggesting a tense standoff.
In reference to the fatal incident, the late teen's identification has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing. As per the information provided by First Coast News, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel were also at the scene, responding to the gunshot wounds the victim suffered.
