
Following a violent incident in downtown Portland on Monday, three individuals have been arrested in connection with a stabbing assault that left one man injured. According to a report by the Portland Police Bureau, the altercation took place near Southwest Yamhill Street and Southwest 10th Avenue, where the 44-year-old male victim, having exited the library, came upon a fray and was subsequently stabbed and hit with skateboards by the assailants.
Responding officers arrived at the scene around 5:10 p.m. and found the victim with multiple stab wounds. Despite his efforts to intervene, his injuries they are not believed to be life-threatening, and he received prompt medical attention. After the attack, the suspects fled, but were later located by law enforcement in Holladay Park and apprehended with the assistance of library staff and security, Transit Police, among others.
Now facing charges and lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center, the three involved individuals are Anthony M. Nicholas, 18, accused of Assault in the Second Degree, Ja’Riyah L. Williams, 21, and Daviana E. Anderson, 18, both of whom are charged with Assault in the Third Degree, as per the Portland Police Bureau's announcement. All have also been charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon in the wake of the incident.
The investigation into the assault is ongoing, with PPB’s Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Evidence Division leading the efforts. Detectives have yet to disclose further information about the circumstances leading up to the assault. Portland Police have expressed their gratitude towards the parties that contributed to the rapid response and successful apprehension of the suspects involved in the assault.
