In an update later released, it became clear that challenges abounded for the firefighters responding to the call. The fire began in a three-story, historic balloon-frame house – an architectural style known for its propensity to become an inferno's canvas quickly. Efforts to contain the blaze were impeded by extensive fire activity. Firefighters managed the risk and adversity with a decision to pivot from an interior offensive to a defensive exterior attack. This strategic move was essential to contain the blaze.
The San Francisco Fire Department update outlined the firefighters' quick action in suppressing the flames in two of the affected homes. However, the fire in the originating building presented a greater adversary due to the older construction materials. One of the residents was forced to make a terrifying escape by jumping out of a backyard window. As of 7:00 AM, firefighters continued diligently managing the fire.
As firefighting operations continue, spectators and residents have been advised to keep their distance from the area.
