Tragedy struck in the Alief area of Houston this week when a man was fatally shot in front of an insurance business. The Houston Police Department reported that the incident occurred yesterday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. on the 7600 block of Boone Road, according to Click2Houston. Witnesses described three suspects wearing masks and arriving in a white SUV before one of them allegedly shot the man following an altercation.
Shortly after the shooting, taking refuge in the same white SUV, the suspects fled the scene and were last seen heading south on Boone Road. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson in a statement obtained by Click2Houston, undercover officers, leveraging information from witnesses, later identified the white Chevrolet SUV that was believed to be linked to the frightening incident.
The break in the case came just hours later, when the aforementioned SUV was spotted near NRG Park. HPD attempted a traffic stop, which escalated into a chase when the vehicle's occupants decided to flee. The pursuit ended with a crash at the intersection of S. Loop 610 and Scott Street on Houston’s South Side, as noted by KHOU. Two suspects were apprehended from the crashed vehicle, while the third, traveling in a second vehicle, was also taken into custody.
Police now believe that the shooting may have stemmed from a robbery attempt at the strip mall where the insurance agency is located. Following the swift apprehension, Lt. Crowson stated, "It took less than five hours from the time of the shooting to arrest all three suspects," as mentioned by KHOU. Details about the suspects remain undisclosed as the investigation continues.
