An event unfolded at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon yesterday when a 2-year-old child was fatally struck by a car. The accident occurred in a parking lot at roughly 2:45 p.m., with New York State Police responding to the scene. The young victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip but was pronounced dead, as reported by NY Daily News.
The toddler, whose identity has not been disclosed, was hit by a 2016 Acura. The driver of the vehicle, who also has not been publicly identified, placed a 911 call immediately and fully cooperated with investigators, according to officials. An analysis by state police at the scene, about 30 miles east of Central Park, led to the determination that this incident was an accident and that no criminal charges would be filed, according to PIX 11.
This was not the only deadly traffic event on Long Island that day. Another vehicle-related fatality occurred approximately 10 miles west in East Meadow, where a 55-year-old man lost his life in a two-car collision involving a Nissan Altima and Nissan Maxima. Nassau County police noted that at the intersection of Salisbury Park Dr. and Carman Ave, the Altima carrying the 55-year-old man, alongside a 57-year-old woman driver and a 56-year-old female passenger, clashed with the Maxima, operated by a 40-year-old woman. While the male passenger was killed, the other involved parties suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover. No victims were publicly named, as detailed by NY Daily News.
The New York State Police have not released further information regarding the incidents as the investigations continue.
