Residents and travelers in Portage are gearing up for a significant detour as a portion of South Westnedge Avenue is set to shut down for three weeks. Beginning next Monday, August 4, the stretch from West Osterhout Avenue to Bacon Avenue will be closed to through traffic. According to MLive, the closure is due to the installation of new sanitary sewers as part of a $1.9 million underground infrastructure upgrade.
Access to homes and the businesses within the construction zone will be maintained. The Portage Department of Transportation & Utilities has announced a detour that redirects traffic via West Osterhout Avenue, Portage Road, and Bacon Avenue. Motorists are advised to adhere to the signed detour or find other alternatives to avoid delays, as per a press release from the City of Portage.
