A tragic and fatal accident claimed the life of a truck driver in Washington County yesterday. Pennsylvania State Police and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene near the interchange of Routes 22/576 in Robinson Township following reports of a hit-and-run incident, as reported by WTAE.
Brian Everhart, 46, a commercial truck driver, had pulled over to the side of Route 22 to address a mechanical issue with his vehicle. According to WPXI, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco stated, "He parked to the right of the fog line to get out of the vehicle and check on a mechanical issue." While outside of his truck, Everhart was struck by a vehicle whose driver failed to remain at the scene, officials said.
The severity of the situation was evident as Sky 4, Pittsburgh's news helicopter, captured the hectic response of multiple first responders and a medical helicopter arriving before 4 p.m. Unfortunately, despite the swift response, Everhart was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a turn that suggested a break in the case, Sky 4 footage showed what appeared to be a person being taken into police custody a short distance from the incident. Despite this development, no further details regarding the identification of the suspect or the circumstances leading up to the arrest have been released so far.
