A domestic violence suspect in Tulsa was arrested after a standoff with police that involved threats and the use of gas irritants. The incident ended when the suspect surrendered.

According to the Tulsa Police Department's Facebook post, the situation began on August 20 when Abisua Sanchez threatened family members at a home near 41st and 145th E. Avenue. Relatives fled to a nearby gas station and called for help. When officers arrived, Sanchez barricaded himself inside and refused to communicate.

The Tulsa Police Department reported that Sanchez threatened to shoot officers. The Special Operations Team deployed gas irritants, but Sanchez did not leave the home. A drone later detected movement and a gunshot inside. After a stronger irritant was used, Sanchez surrendered around 2 a.m.

He had accidentally shot himself, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury, and was given medical treatment before being taken into custody. Family members told police there were multiple knives and firearms inside the home.

No one else was injured. The investigation into the threats and related offenses is ongoing.
