A confrontation in downtown Orlando spiraled into a violent robbery early this morning, with two individuals now facing charges. According to WFTV, the incident transpired at the junction of Magnolia and Central Boulevard, where a man was violently attacked and subsequently robbed. Following the altercation, Orlando Police quickly managed to locate and arrest the suspects, thanks also to the vigilance of the city’s Crime Center.
Orlando’s Crime Center detectives were able to continuously surveil the area through cameras and provide detailed descriptions that aided in the capture of the assailants. Surveillance footage captured by the city played a pivotal role in the investigation. Following the fight, 28-year-old Ahmed Hansford and 30-year-old Ashley Weeksbury were arrested, as reported by WFTV. Hansford is now charged with battery, while Weeksbury faces a robbery charge.
ClickOrlando disclosed further details of the violent outbreak. Recorded on camera, Hansford, identifiable in a red hat and white T-shirt, was seen engaging in an intense physical fight with the male victim. The surveillance video shows Hansford hitting the man multiple times, continuing even after the victim had fallen unconscious. Meanwhile, Weeksbury was witnessed searching the man's pockets and taking a cellphone from him. Both fled east toward North Rosalind Avenue after the incident.
While Weeksbury was later detained by police and the stolen cellphone was recovered, the victim had to be transported to receive medical care due to his injuries. Police body-worn cameras documented Hansford and Weeksbury being taken into custody. ClickOrlando stated, based on the video evidence and officer observations, that the charges were assigned as battery to Hansford and robbery to Weeksbury.
