A road rage incident in Jefferson County escalated into a police chase and the arrest of two suspects on charges including attempted murder, according to authorities. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported that dispatchers received a 911 call around 8 a.m. Saturday, a driver on U.S. 6 near Tunnel 1 claimed an erratic driver had fired a handgun at him.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle; however, the driver refused to stop, which led to a pursuit that ended in a Golden neighborhood. In an attempt to block the suspects' escape, deputies incurred damage to a patrol car, 9NEWS reported.

The suspects, identified as Pierre Morris, 38, and Shakeyah Jackson, 29, fled into the Golden Ridge apartment complex, where they were seen tossing several items into a pond before attempting to flee once more. After police stopped the vehicle, a high-risk arrest ensued with no injuries reported. Multiple firearms and ammunition were later recovered from the pond, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Both Morris and Jackson, who now face a litany of charges including attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference, felony eluding, and weapon possession by a previous offender, were booked at the Jefferson County Detention Center. A shelter-in-place order for the apartment complex was lifted shortly after the suspects were apprehended, as stated by CBS Colorado.

In a detailed account of the arrests provided by KDVR, officials outlined the multiple charges faced by the duo. These include, but are not limited to, attempted first- and second-degree assault, felony menacing, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest. Morris and Jackson are also charged with tampering with evidence and being habitual offenders, with both having violated bond conditions.
