The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has announced an open call for public input on the state's fishing regulations for the 2026-27 season. Starting from today and running through August 27, anglers and interested parties are invited to voice their suggestions and critiques directly to the TWRA.
According to the TWRA, the feedback gathered during this comment period will be used to craft future fishing policies that reflect the diverse interests of Tennessee's angling community. Working alongside fishery independent assessments, the agency aims to develop regulations that balance resource management with angler satisfaction. Early in 2026, any proposed changes will be presented at a meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission, as detailed in the TWRA's announcement.
This public engagement initiative complements the TWRA Fisheries' ongoing efforts to maintain healthy fish populations through a range of management techniques, data collection on fish demographics, and habitat improvement programs. Moreover, the agency supports fish diversity by actively stocking various species, aiming to enhance the fishing experiences available across Tennessee's waterways.
In addition to regulating and supervising fisheries, the TWRA conducts surveys that examine the fishing community’s behaviors, including catch rates, angler preferences, and the economic dynamics that impact the local economy. After the proposed regulations are presented to the commission, there will be an additional period for public comment. Once approved, the new regulations will take effect on August 1, 2026. Those wishing to share their views can submit comments via the link on the TWRA’s official website.
The TWRA’s responsibility extends beyond fish and wildlife conservation; it also encompasses ensuring safety on the state's waterways through law enforcement and educational programs.
