The U.S. Department of Labor has taken a significant leap toward greater transparency and accountability by introducing a comprehensive performance dashboard, shedding light on the effectiveness of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs funded by taxpayers. The U.S. Department of Labor announced the tool's launch today, offering the public detailed insights into adult, youth, and dislocated worker programs supported under WIOA.
Over 550 local workforce development boards across the nation have their data displayed on the dashboard, providing a detailed picture of the program performance. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer has expressed enthusiasm for the new initiative, saying, "This exciting new tool will help us ensure taxpayer-funded investments in our nation’s workers are fulfilling their intended purpose by giving state and local leaders a better understanding of what is working and what isn’t," pushing forward the agenda prescribed by President Trump's executive orders, as per the U.S. Department of Labor.
The dashboard comes packed with various performance indicators from program year 2023, including employment rates for participants in the second and fourth quarters post-program, median earnings in the second quarter after exiting the program, credential attainment rates while in the program or within a year of completion, and the rate of participants who have gained measurable skills during the program year. It stands as an effort to deliver on the promises of efficient governance and the prudent use of public funds.
Highlights from the dashboard, accessible to all, are not just limited to performance metrics; it also discloses participant counts, the number of individuals trained, and those engaged in Registered Apprenticeship programs, breaking down data by state, local workforce board name, or code, which allows users to tailor the results to their needs, ensuring that data usage can be as broad or as intimate as needed, helping to inform decisions and policy at multiple levels. It even enables users to download the information dissected in the dashboard to their local devices.
