An officer-involved shooting is currently under investigation in Vallejo after an armed confrontation with a wanted suspect, the Vallejo Police Department reported through a social media post. The incident took place last night, when the Vallejo Police Department was called to address a possible act of vandalism on the 2000 block of Ascot Parkway.

The call also indicated that the individual in question was Alexander Schumann, a 24-year-old biracial male from Vallejo, who was wanted on several outstanding felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants. Officers arrived at the scene where Schumann allegedly walked towards them and pointed what looked like a handgun. In response, officers engaged in a shooting. "Officers immediately rendered medical aid, and the subject was transported to an area hospital via helicopter, where he remains in stable condition," the department stated. The weapon found at the scene later turned out to be a pellet/BB gun.

The Solano County Major Crimes Task Force is now leading the criminal investigation, and the city has brought in an independent investigator to conduct an administrative investigation. Furthermore, a Critical Incident Review Board within the Vallejo Police Department will assess the incident, examining the department’s practices, from tactics to equipment.

Vallejo Police have pledged to keep the public informed and will organize a town hall meeting within the next two weeks to disseminate more information. "The Vallejo Police Department remains committed to transparency and will provide more information as it becomes available," the department’s communication assured.
