Community members in Vernal are about to witness the unveiling of the new Central Cove Early Learning Center, a collaborative endeavor between the Uintah School District and Utah State University Uintah Basin. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for August 25, from 5-6:30 p.m., as noted in an announcement by USU. Situated a stone's throw from the iconic Aggie Bull at 29 N. 1600 West, the state-of-the-art facility seeks to bolster early childhood education in Uintah County.

Embracing the necessity for academic excellence and early intervention, Central Cove Principal Erin Brown expressed to USU Today, "My hope is that as our families and our community walk through the doors of our new school for the first time, they will feel — just as I have — the urgency of our vision." Armed with ambitious strategies for educational enrichment, the new school is poised to not only inspire its students but also bring together families and educators to forge a brighter academic future.

In collaboration with USU, Uintah School District Superintendent Rick Woodford emphasized the importance of the district’s alliance. "We’re proud to partner with USU to offer a research-based program where children can learn through play, hands-on projects and peer interaction in a safe, supportive environment," Woodford told USU Today. Reinforcing this sentiment, Woodford cited decades of research that illustrate the benefits of preschool attendance, including markers such as academic success and improved health outcomes.

The construction of Central Cove was financed by district capital fund reserves, replacing an outdated 1940s building. “The new Central Cove Early Learning Center is about more than the shiny new building,” Woodford explained, as per USU Today. It represents the district's commitment to laying the educational foundation for children to thrive. Aligning with these goals, USU Uintah Basin has made a significant impact on bringing the project to fruition, integrating both faculty expertise and facilities, including faculty offices and an adult education classroom within the premises of Central Cove, fostering a symbiotic environment dedicated to enhancing community learning and development.
