Attorney General Nick Brown is stepping up his game this Labor Day with a report outlining four key actions to bolster worker protections in Washington. Wrangling with wage theft, safeguarding federal employees, and championing farm workers against discrimination are part of the year-long grind documented in the AGO's latest labor rally cry.
AG Brown advocates for serious maneuvers in pursuing justice and fair working conditions: he calls for a specialized Strategic Labor Enforcement Unit housed within the Attorney General’s Office. He suggests shaking hands with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries to spruce up how they're currently cracking down. Moreover, he's pitching the Immigrant Worker Protection Act as a shield against the onslaught from the Trump administration's policies that make life harder for Washington workers. "Laws are only effective if they are robustly and consistently enforced," AG Brown stated, stressing his commitment to flex the AGO's muscle in defense of labor rights.
Backing from the community has been swift and solid, with Jeremiah Miller, Legal Director for Fair Work Center, expressing his gratitude, “We deeply appreciate AG Brown's commitment to protecting Washingtonians at work. Low-wage workers depend on public enforcement of their rights; it is expensive and time consuming for these workers to file a private lawsuit,” as the office of the Attorney General of Washington State reported.
Moving from the page to the people, AG Brown is not just about reports and recommendations, and will be hosting a Workers' Town Hall on Tuesday, September 2, tagging in partners from Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, and the Pierce County Labor Council, AFL-CIO for the event. It's all happening at Clover Park Technical College.
