A 30-year-old man from Washington State was arrested on Lake Herman Road near the Benicia reservoir yesterday morning, after Benicia Police responded to a report of a suspicious person and subsequently discovered he was a wanted fugitive. The Benicia Police Department announced that the man initially provided false information about his identity. After the investigation, officers revealed his true identity and his status as a wanted individual for 10 counts of arson.
Following the identification, the suspect, Michael Austin McGrath, was taken into custody at around 11:29 AM and transported to Solano County Jail. McGrath had escaped from a community custody program in Washington and had evaded capture until Benicia officers made the on-view arrest, according to the details provided by the department.
The arrest details published on the Benicia Police Department's website specify McGrath's age, physical description, and the charges brought against him. These include furnishing a false identity to a police officer, a misdemeanor, and the outstanding warrant from Washington, a felony. McGrath is described as a white male, 5'4" in height, 155 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
