A Washington, D.C., man received a prison sentence for a burglary he committed while a woman was asleep in her apartment earlier this year, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro's office. Nathaniel Robinson, 36, was sentenced today to 70 months behind bars, following a guilty plea to one count of first-degree burglary, although the court suspended a portion of the sentence, resulting in three years of actual incarceration; Robinson had been in custody since his arrest on March 7, the day after the burglary, as the U.S. Attorney's Office reported.

The nighttime heist took place on March 6, when Robinson slipped into the victim’s residence through her patio door alongside the apartment building's lobby, which he had unsuccessfully attempted to breach as captured by surveillance cameras, the victim unaware of the intrusion until the following morning when she realized her personal belongings, including her cell phone, credit cards, and a key fob to a building wine cellar, were missing, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Robinson was seen on security footage struggling to break into the lobby then soon after he is seen exiting through the same lobby area carrying the victim's red bag, in an unfortunate chain of events that led to a fast identification by the Metropolitan Police Department, "Superior Court Judge Jennifer Di Toro sentenced Robinson to 70 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release, suspended as to all but three years," according to the U.S. Attorney's Office announcement.

This case comes to a close after the collaborative efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department, under Chief Pamela Smith, with acknowledgment to Assistant U.S. Attorney Hannah Skopicki for prosecution, who were all thanked by U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith for their diligent work which led to Robinson's apprehension and subsequent sentencing, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
