On Monday, authorities said that Deandre Miles, 30, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 15 years last Friday, in Superior Court for a fatal shooting. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Miles was convicted of voluntary manslaughter while armed and destruction of property. The charges are connected to the death of 28-year-old Davon Fuller in October 2023.

After pleading guilty on February 28, Superior Court Judge Rainey Brandt sentenced Miles to 12 months for destruction of property, to be served at the same time as his manslaughter sentence. The incident began with an argument inside a store at Hechinger Mall on Maryland Avenue NE and continued when the men met again in another business at the mall. Although they left the store without incident at first, the dispute resumed and moved outside. Miles was arrested on December 27, 2023, and has remained in custody since then, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Miles pursued Fuller through a mall after Fuller asked to be left alone, leading to a confrontation in which Fuller allegedly pulled a knife and Miles drew a gun. Miles shot Fuller five times, and Fuller later died from his injuries despite medical efforts. After the sentencing, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith recognized the work of the Metropolitan Police Department, Paralegal Specialist Lashone Samuels, Victim/Witness Advocate Jennifer Clark, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah C. Santiago, as stated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
