The Washington State Productivity Board, a group geared towards enhancing government efficiency and cutting costs, will be convening this Thursday, August 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The meeting, which welcomes public attendance in line with the Open Public Meetings Act, will be held in Conference Room 111 at the Town Center 3 building, located at 243 Israel Road SW in Tumwater, as announced on the Secretary of State's website.
First established by the Legislature back in 1982 and then suspended in 2011 due to budget constraints, the board made a comeback in 2023, offering an incentive of up to $10,000 for state employees who propose viable strategies to enhance revenue or streamline government operations, as per the Secretary of State. Over its lifespan, this incentive program has saved the state millions, a notable achievement in the pursuit of fiscal stewardship amid often stringent budgetary limitations, and this commitment to thrift is seen as a win for not only employees who bring forth innovative ideas but also for the taxpayers whose burdens it seeks to ease.
The agenda for the upcoming session will cover a range of topics, including opening remarks, a review of old business, an exploration of new initiatives and discussions, the presentation of awards to deserving employees with impressive proposals, and closing remarks that will also announce the date of the next meeting, the Secretary of State noted.
