West Chester Township has experienced its second potential cybersecurity breach this month, officials say, with suspicions once again falling on a known "malicious hacking group." The township disclosed that around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, they were alerted to unusual activity on their central email server, which could indicate a cyberattack. Officials have stressed that, as of now, "we have no evidence that data has been stolen," a sentiment echoed in a statement obtained by FOX19.

Having been targeted by the same group earlier in August, township officials were quick to engage with experts to isolate and contain the prior incident. This latest alert has prompted another collaborative investigation with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, legal counsel, and cybersecurity experts. While working closely with the FBI, the township has also taken steps to fortify their systems against further intrusion, though, taking into account the repeated threats, some have raised concerns about the sufficiency of these defenses.

The ominous repetition of the attack, occurring on the heels of the one on August 12, was confirmed by township officials who, in a statement reported by WLWT, indicated that the attempt was "quickly isolated and contained." Forensic analysis is being conducted to uncover the full scope and impact of the attacks, and officials are committed to relaying updates as "verified information becomes available."
