A woman was injured after being shot outside the Cheesecake Factory at the Westfield Topanga mall on Thursday afternoon, authorities said. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the incident, and a suspect is now in custody. KTLA reports that upon arrival, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound, and she was subsequently transported to the hospital in a stable condition.
Details surrounding the shooting are still emerging, but the altercation took place at approximately 12:25 p.m. FOX LA noted that a man fired multiple rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at a woman who was with her child, in what authorities are calling a child custody dispute. Although the woman was not struck by gunfire, the suspect allegedly stabbed her in the shoulder. She managed to run into a nearby restaurant with her child to seek help.
Aerial footage from the scene showcased a heavy law enforcement presence, and a section of the mall's parking lot was sectioned off with caution tape. ABC7 captured video showing the police taping off the area adjacent to the Cheesecake Factory and confirmed that the suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting occurred.
